A Great Lady

This is my paternal grandmother. I have sung praises about her before and I am doing it again. As I had mentioned before, I had the great privilege of being  raised by my grandparents during my teen years and a couple of my grammar school years. Too bad for them, I know! At that age, I didn't realize how much they sacrificed for me. I do now and I hope they are looking down and hear me.

As an example of her goodness, I have this story.  Back in the 60's while I was in high school, we didn't have calculators, computers or smart phones at our fingertips to do all those mundane calculations necessary for our math classes.  From my perspective, at the time, I thought it was great that we could use a slide rule.  'A what?' you say? A slide rule. An analog device that was used for calculations. Between that and the trig tables that were embossed on our desktops, I thought we were pretty well off.

My grandmother loved her grandchildren very much. She never used words to express that love, she showed it in her actions. Two of her many skills were sewing and knitting.  Every year for Christmas she would knit mittens for all the grand kids She even sewed name labels in every article of my clothes including socks and underwear.

Anyway, to get to the point of today's story. So I have my shiny new slide rule and dear Gram thought it would be a good idea to make a case for it, which she did and I still have both. Do you think it odd that I treasure the case more then the slide rule? I don't.
